If you’re here, it’s because you’re looking for online therapy in Austin.  Of course you are!  Welcome

These are some crazy times we’re facing together.  I’m glad you’re here.

As the pandemic unfolds, most of us are finding that our usual coping strategies are only getting us so far.

Online counseling in Austin has seen a huge boom in the past three weeks, with nearly every therapist offering outpatient care transitioning over to offering therapy online.

It’s not always been a graceful transition, but it’s here now and just about every Austin therapist is now offering online counseling.

The good news about that is that you now have your pick of therapist online.  And no commute to your sessions.

(I’d trade those silver linings in a second for business as usual, but alas, the universe isn’t accepting exchanges and I lost my receipts in the wash.)

With everything going on, it’s not a shock that we’re all ending up searching for online therapy in Austin or rummaging in the cupboard for snacks—kind of depends on the day.

Online therapy:  connection protects against stress

Snacks aside, research shows that some of the best protection against PTSD and other forms of traumatic stress is seeking support through relationship.  Connection truly does bolster us against trauma.

And yet, we’re guessing your relationships right now with spouses, roommates, children and coworkers are pretty tense right now.  (No?  Just me?)

That’s where therapy comes in.

Being able to receive support without judgment,

without agenda,

without complaints about who left the dishes in the sink,

without having to lift up others when you are tapped.out.and.scared,

that kind of anchoring presence is what each of us badly needs right now.

Yes, even us therapists.  You better believe we’ve all got online counseling appointments booked with our own therapists this week.

In fact, everyone in Counseling South Austin participates in their own therapy.  It’s one of our requirements to practice here.  Because we practice what we preach.

We aren’t built to withstand this kind of strain and stress alone.  We are facing a worldwide crisis not just of physical health but also emotional health.

So, I’m heartened to see the memes and guidelines in my feed about sustaining our mental health during this trying time.

It is far more emotionally expensive to try and regulate and soothe ourselves alone.  We are literally built to coregulate.

And that’s what therapy does:  it helps us regulate, find our footing, and feel more capable and okay in the face of incredible stress.

It helps us feel a sense of hope, a sense of agency and acceptance, even when things feel insurmountable.

So I have my eyes on each of you during this trying time, particularly for those of you who are facing a tremendous amount of caregiver stress:

parents suddenly homeschooling children and working at the same time,

people caring for sick family members,

therapists and frontline healthcare professionals,

folks alone in their apartments struggling with loneliness and isolation

and more.

We’re in this together.

Online therapy in Austin:  getting started

Let us help.  Contact us today to see about scheduling a consultation.  All of our therapists are taking on new clients.

We can get you started with a consultation within a couple of days of sending us an email.  And if we’re not the folks for you, we can get you connected with others who can help.

And one other thing: yeah, I get it—you probably never thought you’d be looking for therapy online

We didn’t plan to offer our services this way—more out of personal preference than anything else, but… it turns out, a month into offering services online, we’ve ironed out a lot of the kinks.

And it’s pretty similar to work offline– except we can’t see if you’re jiggling your foot anxiously off screen and call you on it.

But in a lot of other ways, it’s very true to form—and the research on online counseling has been saying that for years.  It is as effective as in person work.

Still not sure? Try connecting with us for a free consultation and see how you feel.

Austin online counseling:  the nitty gritty

We offer therapy via a secure, encrypted platform called TheraNest.  It’s designed specifically for therapists to offer therapy online.

Our online therapy offerings are on a sliding scale that starts at $90/session.

If you need Austin online counseling services at a lower fee, try Capital Area Counseling, Kaleidoscope Counseling or YWCA Counseling (for women and couples).

One other spoiler:  we’re offering online counseling in Austin for folks in Austin and the surrounding area.  This is because we’ll be resuming in-office visits once it’s safe to do so.  Our preference is always to meet with you in person, so we aren’t taking on clients from other parts of Texas right now.

Go ahead and browse our therapists here. Feel free to reach out to them directly to see about setting up a consultation or if you have a quick question. You can also contact the clinic director about a personalized recommendation, just hop over to our free consultation page and send over an email with your answers and we’ll get you matched up with someone.

Help is available.  Don’t tough this out alone!  We are here for you.  Drop us a line and we’ll get you set up. Talk with you soon!
